Thanksgiving is just around the corner. We have a beautiful tradition to gather with the whole extended family for dinner and Christmas carols. The event is major and requires serious planning. The guest list is numbered somewhere in the 40’s and continues to grow as we all continue to procreate. After dinner we gather around the piano (which this year will be a keyboard but that’s a different story) and sing carols. Jingle Bells is a favorite for the kids who each have their own [bell] and jingle (or shake uncontrollably) until the song is over. An adult favorite is the Twelve Days of Christmas. Uncle Bob breaks us up into groups and each group is responsible for singing a particular “Day”. We must sing our best b/c it’s a contest of course… to be judged on no particular criteria or skill but merely on the whim of Uncle Bob. The night is a huge hit for me and I hope for the rest of my family as well. But what am I thankful for this year? I am thankful for the tradition to be sure but what else will I say when asked?
I am Thankful that God is sovereign and has allowed me to experience my life with the many blessings of family, friends, church, and so much more. Someone at my Life Group (house church) just said how even though we suffer sometimes, we really don’t deserve anything else and we should be grateful for the mercy God gives us in allowing us such blessings to begin with; we should be thankful for His Grace which has likely prevented us from suffering even more than we already have.Question: What are you thankful for?
